Tonight we’re staying at the luxurious Overseers Cottage high up on the top of Table Mountain, above Kirstenbosch Gardens. It’s not something you’d expect to find on top of Cape Town’s landmark. Its not very wild, but hey…
It’s an old stone cottage that has been renovated, and is really comfortable and impressively fitted out. Comfy couches, a big fireplace (see pic!), hot showers, fully equipped kitchen, and several rooms with big comfy beds with big warm duvets and pillows. This cottage is also part of the Hoerikwaggo Trail, but one can also rent it separately as a weekend away. And it is possible to drive to the top of the mountain on the jeep track from Constantia Nek, although you do need a permit.
The view is spectacular. One looks east out over the southern suburbs towards Stellenbosch and False Bay. The city lights below seem so close, but of course, they’re almost 1 000 metres lower in altitude. Tonight is another clear night, with a waxing moon, and bright stars. The cold front is coming, so I’m enjoying the calm weather, although secretly I’m looking forward to the wild winter storm that is expected on Wed and Thursday!
